Lebron James: The Mistake

March 9, 2011

Is it weird that the first time I watched this (just a few seconds ago) I got goosebumps and started smiling and basically cheering on a YouTube video from the comfort of my office??  I say no, because it’s the best/most inspiring/ most amazing video I’ve seen this week.  Big up to the YouTuber who posted this.

March is for lovers (of music)

March 7, 2011

Last time dswt brought you summer prep music, this time my goal is to help you make it through March.  Below find a quick collection of sure to be spring greatness.

(right click ‘save as’ on the titles to download or just simply click to listen)  And of course enjoy!

1. Delorean: Stay Close (RAC Remix)

While I don’t listen to much Delorean, RAC is the super king of remixes.  Instead of adding to songs, it seems like they find the most beautiful aspect of each track to highlight, and then focus their efforts around that.  In this case, it’s the smooth vocals in the background for the first minute and then that element seems to carry the song towards the end.  Enjoy.

2. Wiz Khalifa & Snoop Dogg: Young, Wild, And Free

Everyone’s favorite verteran sleepy eyed story teller callaboing with a new up and coming sleepy eyed story teller.  This song is just fun.  No other description is really needed.

3.The Knux : She’s So Up

These guys are great.  The best description is that they are alternative/hip-hop/electric/rock all mixed into one.  This is the first single off of the duo’s second album, and it is fantastic.

4. Middle Brother: Blue Eyes

Middle brother consists of the three lead men from the bands Delta Spirit, Deer Tick, and Dawes.  Anyone not familiar with these 3 bands can do yourselves a big favor by listening to each.  However, combined, this super-group produces and album that feels polished and sounds as if they’ve been playing for year, rather than simply the weeks they’ve had together.  Blue Eyes is a standout to me.

5. Lupe Fiasco: Words I Never Said (Feat. Skylar Grey)

Skylar Grey may sound familiar because she laid down the great track for Eminem and Dre’s new single, I Need A Doctor.  Well, she lays her voice down on what is probably Lupe’s best song from his 3rd album Lasers.  While Lasers as a whole kind of seems like a disappointment as a whole project, this track is certainly one of the exceptions to that.

Kanye West Seizure Inducing Amazonderfultasticness

March 1, 2011

So, A lot of people are claiming that Hype Williams new video for Kanye West’s super-song, “All of the Lights” rips off the opening credits to a movie entitled Enter the Void, which as it turns out bites the original sequence of films by Jean Luc- Godard.  Personally, everyone steals everything now-a-days and it’s not like these other guys we’re doing much.  I feel like they could probably use the publicity.

Regardless of the fact, this video is fantastic.  Normally I wouldn’t post about music video’s but this seems like an exception to me.  It’s cut from the class of Kanye genius that was “The Good Life” and how can you not like seeing Ye stand on top of a cop car wearing some brand new 3’s??

Never to early to think about Summer

February 24, 2011

Winter Blues got you down?  Or are you simply just sick of snow and whipping cold wind?  I’m in boat with the latter, and rather than just sit and take it, I’m taking weather into my own hands.  The way I see it, it can be as cold as it wants outside, it’s not going to stop my mind from preparing for Sperry’s, bathing suits, slushies, bags, pontoon boats, and summer music.  Winter music has it’s place, trust me I never doubt the powers of Mr. Justin Vernon and Bon Iver, but sometimes you just need music made for summer.

So if you’re finding that the last month or so of winter can’t go fast enough, then get a head start on everyone else, Mother Nature included, and start listening to some great tracks.

Enjoy the tracklist below. (Right click Save As to Download.)

4. Tennis: Long Boat Pass

5. Pretty Lights: Finally Moving (James Brown Remix)

7. Cold War Kids: Mine is Yours (Yeasayer Remix)

Socks Blown Off

February 7, 2011

I may be a little late to the party, but I finally ran across the fantastic work of “Pretty Lights” and I must say, wow.  I’m not a very big fan of DJ’s or electro music at all, but this seems to toe the line of electro-pop and really really talented DJing and mixing.  I’m leaning towards the latter.

Check out his remix of Kanye West’s super Jam “All of the Lights” below (Right Click “Save As” to get it free!)

Let’s Move on Chicago….

January 24, 2011

The Bears lost, Cutler is a baby, we get it.  It’s been a day, we’ve yelled, we’ve cried, we’ve vented, and it’s time to move on.  Luckily, Chicago has the best PG in the game and one of the league’s best teams to help cushion the blow.  To be honest, the Bears games on Sundays were simply just days that the Bulls didn’t happen to be playing and it was  a good way to kill the time between watching D Rose highlights and trolling the rumor mill to see when OJ Mayo might join the squad.  So now that the Bears are hibernating for the the offseason, dust yourself off and watch Chicago’s most successful franchise, the Bulls.

Oh, and Stacy King is the best non-play by play commentator in the game today.  If he and Gus Johnson did a game together my head might explode.

Feel Like a Kid Again

January 19, 2011

A some point in time, no matter you’re age or sex (yep I’m including girls in this one) everyone has wanted to fly a plane.  Rarely does it look this beautiful.
